Generated from the strength of the winds, it currently represents 8.4% of the Brazilian electrical matrix, behind only hydroelectric (60.6%) and biomass (9.1%). Studies estimate that wind energy becomes the second most important source in Brazil.
The size of the industry in Brazil
The high performance of the winds is one of the reasons that place the country among the largest generators in the world. Unidirectional, constant, fast and with little turbulence, Brazilian winds are among the best in the world in these criteria and are ideal for rotating wind blades with more intensity, allowing maximum use of wind turbines, as well as greater electricity generation.
Growth potential of the Brazilian market
Wind energy is the most competitive and fastest growing renewable source in the world. According to the Ten-Year Energy Expansion Plan 2026 (PDE 2026), carried out by the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) and the Energy Research Company (EPE), the total installed wind energy capacity in Brazil is expected to reach to 28.5 GW by 2026, which would represent 12.5% in the Brazilian energy matrix.
Sustainable
The benefits of generating clean and sustainable energy are vast. In 2016, wind energy prevented the emission of 637 million tons of CO2 across the planet. In Brazil, it was responsible for reducing the emission of 21 million tons in 2017 - equivalent to the annual emission of about 16 million cars.
The source also has the potential to guarantee demands for electricity, supply economic needs and assist in the social development of several regions. To give you an idea, it is estimated that more than 190 thousand jobs have been created in Brazil so far.
